In Coral Cadence, first exhibited in the 2009 San Antonio art festival Luminaria, viewers can walk through a dark tunnel glowing with mushroom coral prints which gradually fade and diminish. The oceans, worldwide are becoming more acidic, due to increased water temperatures. As a result, corals eject a symbiotic algae, which causes the reefs to bleach and die. Cadence is a musical term, implying a slow descent. The structure for this installation was built by Miles Fermin for my solo show, Hot Pursuit: Visual Commentary on Climate Change at Bihl Haus Arts, 2020.
